Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) is the state flower of Colorado. Blue flowers with white corollas atop delicate, fern-like foliage. Perennial that is easy to grow in a variety of conditions. Hummingbirds and beneficial insects love the nectar of this special native wildflower. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Barely cover with soil as lights aids germination. Keep seeds moist until they have sprouted. Transplant to sunny spot in cool climate or filtered shade in hot climates.
